Start is a unique experience full of speakers, workshops and a passionate community, that will get you connected and started on your passions. An experience that will make you come alive. Come for the day or for the whole weekend.
During his nearly 24 years as CEO of Joie de Vivre hotels, Chip grew the company to become the second largest boutique hotel company in America. In 2013, Chip launched Fest300 where he shares his passion for world festivals. And, he joined Airbnb as Head of Global Hospitality & Strategy, where he’s sharing his proven methods with hosts in nearly 200 countries.
As an early employee at Airbnb, Jessica worked on scaling its operations worldwide, and recently launched Airbnb's first global conference. Despite her successes, Jessica did not feel fulfilled, so she spent a year interviewing 100 people doing what they love through her blog Passion Stories. During this time, she found her own passion which is helping others find theirs, and today is dedicated full-time as the founder of The Passion Co.
Adam writes stories about purpose-driven millennials who are making a positive impact in their communities. His writing has been published in The Washington Post, Fast Company, Forbes, and GOOD, among others. His book, The Quarter-Life Breakthrough, is a bestseller. Adam’s next book will be published by Perigee Books (Penguin Random House) in 2016. Smiley has spoken about finding meaningful work at Fortune 500 companies, international conferences and leadership development programs, universities and graduate schools.
Kara Goldin is the inspiring CEO & Founder of San Francisco-based Hint Inc, which produces all-natural fruit essence waters. Kara launched the brand in 2005 to make it easier for consumers to drink more water and lead a healthier lifestyle. Hint Water has successfully challenged the notion that drinks must contain sugar or diet sweeteners to appeal to the consumer. Dubbed a “flavored water magnate” by Fast Company Magazine and “evangelical entrepreneur” by Forbes, her current authority in the beverage industry has propelled her to be a leading media resource and contributor to national outlets including The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, MORE, The Huffington Post, Reuters and Businessweek.
Kristen is the co-founder of Irrational Labs, a non-profit behavioral consulting company with a mission to help companies understand and leverage behavioral economics (how and why people make the decisions they do). Kristen’s workbooks, Hacking Human Nature for Good: A practical guide to changing behavior, are used at companies like Google, Intuit, Neflix, Fidelity for business strategy and design work. Kristen is also the host of StartupOnomics, one of the most popular conferences on behavioral change.
Karla Gallardo started Cuyana with the vision of creating a global lifestyle brand that promotes intentional buying, offers premium quality at accessible prices, and empowers local craftsmanship from around the world. Karla earned her MBA from the Stanford Graduate School of Business and previously worked at Apple Online Store as a Business and Strategy Analyst. Karla grew up in Ecuador and is a lifetime lover of fashion and giving back.
Terry Hope Romero is Kickstarter’s Outreach Lead for the Food and Crafts categories and has helped hundreds of projects come to life. She’s also the author of several bestselling cookbooks including Veganomicon, Vegan Cupcakes Take Over the World, Vegan Eats World, Salad Samurai, and many more. Terry has presented cooking demonstrations and culinary talks at food festivals and conferences throughout North America, Europe, and Australia and holds a certificate in Plant Based Nutrition from Cornell University.

Recently featured in Bicycling Magazine, Pat Bailey is known for combining strength and breath with grace and movement. She is a certified Bhakti Vinyasa Flow Yoga Teacher based in San Francisco. Pat leads cycling and yoga retreats globally, and is a yoga branding guru who shares her knowledge of branding and photography with studios and yoga teachers around the world. She was identified by Elle Magazine and Refinery 29 as one of the most inspiring yogis on Instagram. Pat is also the founder of the IG YTT FUND, a fund created to help support yoga teachers in need. She is currently working on a book of poetry, and shares both her photography and poetry on her Yoga with PB website.
Ankit Shah is the creator of Tea With Strangers, a community organization that aims to make cities feel like neighborhoods by breaking down barriers between strangers. They do this by empowering people to be uninhibitively inviting, creating experiences to foster meaningful connection, and focusing on what makes us the same over what makes us different.
In October of 2012 Nate embarked on a journey to interview as many of the most in-love couples that he could find in America. His hope has been to uncover what these inspiring people do differently than everybody else that gives them such enviable and remarkable love.Through his project, The Loveumentary, he's interviewed hundreds of couples, love experts and authors about what it takes to create dynamic, passionate, connected, lasting love.
Omid Scheybani was with Google for 6 years, however his passion for photography and culture inspired him to build a blog and share his cultural and personal insights at tech and business conferences all around the world. Omid organized the first smartphone photography exhibition about Iran where he shared photography and narratives from people in his home country. He has been featured in The Instagram Book, and twelve of his photographs are now available for order on phone-covers from Caseable.
Jia Jiang is the founder of 100 Days of Rejection, speaker and author of Rejection Proof. Several years after Jia Jiang's career in corporate, he took a life altering risk and stepped into the unknown world of entrepreneurship, which resulted in everyone's biggest fear... REJECTION. This became the catalyst that set Jia on the path to his true calling. To conquer the fear of rejection, Jia embarked on a personal quest and started a blog to face 100 Days of Rejection. His journey revealed a world that was hidden in plain sight, a world where people are much kinder than we imagine, discovering that rejection can be much less painful than we believe, and that it is the fear of rejection that is much more destructive than we know.
In 2011, William Werner took his pop-up style pastries to San Francisco’s farmers markets and coffee shops. Trailing the success of his pop-up, he opened Craftsman and Wolves, a long awaited dream made reality. His craft constantly makes headlines locally and internationally, with accolades from publications including WSJ, Real Simple, and Esquire. Ethan Appleby is passionate about Design Thinking as a means to transform culture in organizations and countries. Using Design Thinking he has worked with key business and political leaders on critical strategic issues. He has worked with non-profits, education, commercial and government entities to create tangible benefits. Ethan is the founder of Vango: a new startup that connects emerging artists and novice art buyers. Apple selected Vango as one of its top apps.
Amy is the founder of BubbleSort Zines, zines aimed at high school students that use comics, drawings, and stories to make computer science concepts more accessible and engaging. She recently left her job as an engineer at Airbnb to pursue this full time. She's passionate about the intersection of art and technology and about making tech more inclusive.
Dijon is a storyteller based in San Francisco. Since 2011 he's been walking the streets capturing thousands of stories for his ongoing street photography project SOULS OF SAN FRANCISCO. SOULS is the story of San Francisco told by the people who are the cultural fabric of the legendary bay area scene.
Alyssa is the founder and CEO of Hipcamp, a company that helps people discover and book amazing places to camp. Their mission is get more people outside, and recently they launched the country's first land sharing marketplace, creating a whole new way to get outside. She has a degree from UCLA in Digital Democracy and her deepest passion is helping shape how the internet impacts our humanity and our planet.
Khaled saw a computer for the first time when he was 18 years old in Alexandria, Egypt. He completed his Masters in Computer Science from Virginia Tech and lead Rackspace’s corporate strategy. He was inspired by the impact technology had in shaping the Arab Spring and had been introduced to his now co-founder, James Beshara, through a mentor. Together they launched Tilt, a platform that powers the collective creation of the world by helping people pool money from their groups for free. Since then, over 500,000 groups have used Tilt to turn their ideas, large and small, into reality.
Mark Dwight was born and raised in Silicon Valley. He spent the first 20 years of his career working for high-tech companies. In 2001 he left Cisco Systems to go on a 1200-mile bike ride and contemplate his future. In 2002, Mark took the helm of a struggling San Francisco messenger bag company called Timbuk2, and presided over a three-year turnaround. He sold the company in 2005, was fired eight months later, and started his own bag company, Rickshaw Bagworks, in 2007. Mark is also the founder of SFMade, president of the SF Small Business Commission and a board member of the SF Chamber of Commerce.
Callie Waldman is Head of Food and the culinary mastermind behind healthy food startup, Thistle. Previously, Callie served as Corporate Chef at BandPage and Field Consultant with Fare Resources. Callie approaches cooking and eating with heart and creativity and believes that healthy cuisine should be unpretentious, delicious and playful.

Don’t worry, we’re experts at helping people identify their passion. In fact, on the first day of start we’ll be hosting a session to help you answer this very question if you don’t already know.
WHERE IS START?
Start will be held at the coolest up and coming venue in San Francisco called Dogpatch Studios. To learn more about its amazing neighborhood and find a place to stay, look here.
WHAT TYPES OF WORKSHOPS ARE YOU OFFERING?

WHAT MEALS ARE INCLUDED?
Lunch will be provided on Friday and Sunday. Saturday you get to go explore the neighborhood with new friends. Delicious snacks and refreshments will be available throughout the day, every day.
WHAT IS A TRIBE?
At start you’ll make meaningful connections with people who will support you in your passion-filled journey. We will be matching attendees based on location and passions into small groups, which we call tribes. We will connect you before the conference, you will have meetings during the conference, and we hope you’ll stay in touch afterwards too.
WHAT SHOULD I PACK?
-An instrument or your favorite tools for creating things. (We will have supplies, but it’s always a good idea to bring your own as well).
-For out-of-towners: layers of comfortable clothes, a scarf, a jacket, and anything that makes you feel inspired and ready to create. For tips on how to dress for the party we will be sending you inspiration closer to the event.

Absolutely. You will receive a wristband so that you will not be served alcohol by mistake. :)

CAN I GET A REFUND?
Tickets are non refundable, but the good news is that you can sell them if it is a month or more before the event. We will be making customized surprises for you, so we need to know who is replacing you. If you need to transfer the ticket to someone else please write to us at start@thepassion.co
